In 1919, 50 golf enthusiasts founded the Country Club District Community Golf Association with the dream of owning their own golf course. Initially renting nine holes from J.C. Nichols, the members began setting aside funds annually to purchase land.

In 1922, the Club temporarily relocated to the current Kansas City Country Club site before finally realizing their dream in 1926. With enough money accumulated from member contributions, they purchased the 130 picturesque acres that remain home to the course today.

Legendary architect A.W. Tillinghast, renowned for iconic layouts like Winged Foot and Baltusrol, was hired to design the new course. Enthusiastically pronouncing the terrain "one of the greatest opportunities I have ever had," Tillinghast expertly incorporated the land's natural hills, streams, valleys and woods into a notable layout.

With its beautiful setting and classic Tillinghast design, the course remains a source of pride for members today as a fulfillment of its founding members’ visionary dream nearly a century ago.
